Project Background
In 2006, Upward Mobility began as an eight week summer programme for adults with learning difficulties. With colleges closed for the summer months, there were few meaningful, organised activities in the Edinburgh area. In response to this demand, we created a summer programme, combining art, music, dance, theatre and film to provide students with a wide range of new and exciting experiences. With positive feedback the project continued to grow and became a registered charity in 2007. In addition to a comprehensive arts programme, workshops in gardening and cooking were added to the schedule. By 2009, Upward Mobility had developed close working relationship with Housecall Care and Support along with new premises of 11,000 square feet in Edinburgh’s Arts Complex.
