Film
Working with highly experienced instructors, sessions take place using video recording equipment and state of the art editing software. Workshops include one to one supervision and are designed for students with a keen interest and technical aptitude for IT, editing and production. With the support of the instructor, students are given a hands-on experience in film production.
Students have the option of developing their own film project or working within the structure of Upward Mobility’s project themes (in partnership with Core Productions). At the end of each term, student work is either screened at a community exhibition or local cinema.
A lot of students really love using the computer. Film editing is a great way of getting them to learn discipline to apply their skills to a creative medium. Editing is the process of putting the story of the film together, and gets students to think about story construction. Anyone technically minded will love the process, and is a great way to learn patience and focus.
Who is it for?
Film editing is for anyone who has an interest in film who wishes to learn how to put them together in different ways. Anyone who is creative and loves using the computer will love this course. They will have free reign to experiment and learn their craft.
A typical session
The student will have a dedicated computer that they can use for their editing. They will add footage onto it; and edit the picture, sound and story to make the story complete. This is a really creative process using different images, sounds and editing styles. The workshop will use editing practice through using existing footage to change moods and genres. This will help them learn the language of film, and why things are constructed the way they are. It will also involve editing to a set brief (set of instructions), where the edit will have to be constructed in a certain way for the client. The student will also be given free reign to create films in their own idiom.
What can they expect to learn in a 10 week term?
Technical skills of editing, story construction, learning how to be critical in selection of materials, concentration, film language skills and how creative using the computer can be!
