Drama Skills
This workshop helps develop the confidence of students to enable their acting skills. Teaching methods provide students with the opportunity to express themselves without relying on memory, speech or mobility. This workshop does not focus on scenes and storylines for a production. The workshop consists of a variety of drama games, which focus on building the skills that can later assist those who wish to go on performing. When the weather is nice we take our workshop to Holyrood Park.
Who is it for?
Any student who wishes to improve their drama skills. However students that are shy and quiet will particularly benefit from this empowering and confidence building workshop.
A typical session
The workshop leader begins with everyone standing in a circle to warm up, stretching is followed by sequential shapes and movements. This is repeated with sounds and voices. Students are encouraged to participate in games that require eye contact and concentration, whilst getting the body moving. Students may be asked to individually perform their name to the rest of the group. A number of games will be led with the involvement of students and their support workers. All of the games have a specific learning outcome such as trust, listening skills, concentration or relaxation. At the end of each session students will be asked which parts they liked best and which they would like to do again. To wind down from the active workshop there is a long relaxation of stretching, followed by a guided visualisation.
What can they expect to learn in a 10-week term?
Improved social skills, turn-taking, concentration, listening skills, respect, confidence, trust, appropriate touch and teamwork.
