Bringing Edinburgh Communities Together

Drama

This workshop is designed to develop student acting skills, regardless of experience or ability. Teaching methods provide students with the opportunity to express themselves without relying upon memory, speech or mobility. Still-acting, improvisation, mime and mirroring techniques base acting upon movement. Students work together to develop scenes, storylines and participate in standard film production.

Drama is limited only by imagination and with the students at Upward Mobility that means there are no limits! This workshop gives students the chance to work individually and as a group to create their own storylines and characters.

Who is it for?

Drama is for anyone and everyone!

A typical session

The workshop begins with the students talking a little about how their week has been and sharing anything exciting that’s happened since the last workshop. The workshop leader then begins a warm-up, stretch and introduces that week’s social scene. This is where the students will act out an everyday situation (such as going to the post office) as realistically as possible, thinking about the process and who would be involved.

Once that’s done the group starts working on scenes suggested by students as well as improvisation skills and scripted performance skills. This leads to regular performances where the students can show off their new skills on stage!

What can they expect to learn in a 10 week term?

This workshop helps develop confidence, communication, movement and social skills.
