The Making of Wong Tong
The Community Film project entitled ”The Making of Wong Tong“ will be Upward Mobility’s first project as a registered charity. The project will begin in 2008.
Our workshops are a central component of the project and will consist of Painting and Drawing, Creative Movement, Music (The School of Rock) and Acting (Film School). These workshops will have a curriculum of common themes which will allow for the development of a live stage performance to be held at end of the summer.
This performance will be captured on film and incorporated into Upward Mobility’s feature film ”Wong Tong“ due for release in December of 2008. New workshops will be introduced along the way depending on the various interests of the students.
At this point there are plans to open a charity cafe/art gallery/music venue. This would provide opportunities for students to learn how to prepare food and serve and become familiar with the various responsibilities involved in the food, art and music industries. We are also exploring the possibility of starting a monthly local newspaper. This newspaper would provide the participants of the project with the opportunity to share stories and perspectives as well as valuable training and work experience.
Our community activities will vary depending on the individuals participating and the external organizations which become involved. Our aim is to provide participants with the opportunity to work with other individuals from other groups, such as youth groups and the homeless, while gaining training and work experience. Training and work experience will begin with developing an awareness of our environment. It is necessary for us all to live responsibly if the well being of our environment is to be sustained. Living responsibly means learning about where our food comes from, the conditions in which it is produced and adopting practices which reduces our waste and promotes practices such as environmental conservation and recycling.
We have a wonderful and unique opportunity to make a difference in our local community and for those who are part of it. It is also an opportunity in which anyone who wants to get involved can. In providing a safe and supportive environment for creativity and expression our services will award individuals with a sense of community, a context in which they are able to express themselves openly, an environment which will allow for new friendships as well as new exciting and meaningful experiences. If you would like to get involved or simply have a few questions you would like answered please get in touch. The success of the project is dependent upon the ideas, motivation and involvement of us all.
