Green Seeds Project
The main aim concerning this project is to promote awareness of both individual health and environmental health issues. To achieve this the body of the project will focus on two areas: the running of our own community café and community garden.
Duncan place has been established as the venue for the café, which as we know is the heart of many of the forthcoming workshops. The ethos behind the café is to provide a community outlet for various art-based exhibitions encompassing things such as musical performances and a permanent gallery of local artwork.
Health based workshops will be centred around the daily running of the café, focussing on the preparation of a well balanced and nutritional lunch menu. This will involve the participants gaining knowledge on individual ingredients and how then to put them together, thus creating a healthy meal. Other key issues such as stock taking and handling money will also be addressed.
Our current target as regards the garden is to find a suitable piece of land. Workshops in this area of the project would follow two separate routes: the growing of vegetables and environmental conservation. The vegetable patch would be a collection of seasonal vegetables all chosen by the participants, this all with the intention of supplying the café with an excellent source of fresh ingredients to be used in its daily menus.
The conservation workshops will be built around preserving our own wildlife garden thus creating a desirable habitat for many birds and insects.
This project, although guided by instructors will be entirely down to the creative vision of the participants. From what goes in the salad to where each plant will be rooted are all choices that will be made by them. It is therefore anticipated that this direct involvement in such issues will promote a definite awareness of health and conservation.
