Plastic Fantastic Elastic Band
This is a chance for students who love to make and play music to experience various aspects of creating and performing. This session has both focused and improvised music, ensuring there is something for everyone!
Who is it for?
Any students who enjoys singing, playing, composing and creating sound from recycled bits and bobs!
A typical session
The session is typically split into 4 sections:
1. – COLOUR SCORES
We warm up our bodies, minds and voices with stretches, sounds and songs. We then move onto a focused section involving colour scores in which students can read music and compose their own pieces.
2. – INSTRUMENTAL PERFORMANCE
We perform our pieces and record them. This helps us to notice how much better we are getting from week to week!
3. – SINGING PERFORMANCE
Our singing session is a chance to let our talents shine – we add a skill each week from developing our performance, to working on diction or dynamics.
4. – SKIFFLE TIME!
Finally we come together as the Plastic Fantastic Elastic Band – we make our own instruments and play/sing our own songs. We practice and record to ensure our performance is great!
What can students expect to learn in a 10-week term?
Reading music from a colour score, composing for keyboard, developing the confidence to perform, listening skills, creating instruments & sounds independently, basic musical concepts.
